Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to hire a bouncy castle or other inflatable?
1. A level patch of low grass or smooth paved area large enough to site it.
2. 240v power supplies within 50m reach.
3. The booking fee!

Which equipment will fit in my garden?
We need a main grassy area (or suitable flat, smooth tarmac or paved area) with sufficient space around it free from obstacles, i.e. trees and shrubs, fences, steps, walls, etc. The obstacles must not be too close as they may cause damage or be a danger for those using the equipment. We supply a range of bouncy castles that are suitable for most gardens as well as indoor hire, for example: Typically a 16’x16’ castle is used for children up to the age of 14 years old, with a border of at least 30cm wide all around the castle, so ideally a space of 18’x19’ would be required in this instance.

Can I have the castle indoors?
Yes, all of our castles are suitable for indoor hire, i.e., Community/Church Halls, Leisure Centers, etc. and generally depending on lighting/ceiling mounted fanes etc, the minimum ceiling height needed safely inflate the castle is 3mtrs.

What if I don't have a power supply close enough?
We can provide extension leads up to 100mtrs for no additional charge.

Are your castles suitable for use by adults?
We Currently Do Not Have Any Castles Suitable For Adults.
However we are always expanding our business and if there is a demand for an adult castle then we shall purchase a castle so call us and ask.

How do you define an "Adult"?
Anyone over the age of 14 should not use a standard castle. An adult castle is built differently to accommodate extra size and weight and for more durability.

What Notice do I need to give to book?
It’s best to book as early as possible to avoid disappointment. If another company lets you down on the day of hire, you can try booking last minute and if we have anything available we’ll do our best to fit you in.

How can I book a bouncy castle?
The easiest way to book is by telephoning us on 07799 737373, where we will discuss your requirements in detail noting any special needs. We will then send you a Booking Confirmation so you will have in writing from us all the details of your booking as you have specified. Alternatively fill in our online order form coiong soon) or you can email me at sales@j-4-j.co.uk

How can I pay?
Payment is required upon delivery of the bouncy castle; it can be either cash or cheque accompanied by a valid cheque guarantee card. (Credit Card Payments coming Soon)

Is there a cancellation charge?
No, you can cancel bookings at any time before the day of hire without penalty.

Do I have to pay a deposit?
We require no deposit prior to delivery. Payment should be made on the day prior to setting up. We do however charge a cleaning deposit of £15.00 to ensure that the units are always kept clean. This deposit is refunded in full when the units are found to be clean and in good order upon collection. All payments in connection with the hire are to be made at the time of delivery.

How does the cleaning deposit work?
The cleaning deposit of £15.00 shall be taken on delivery and can be in the form of cash or a separate cheque that will be refunded in full when the units are found to be clean and in good order upon collection.

What preparation is needed before you arrive?
Please ensure that paths and access to the site is free of obstacles. Please remove any overhanging branches, clothing lines etc. before our arrival. We will also need access to a suitable electricity power point.

What sort of surface do you need for the castle?
Castles situated outdoors need to be on a reasonably flat grassy area so that they can be staked down. The area needs to be completely free of any sharp stones, objects, dog mess etc. Please let us know if the ground is hard standing such as a patio area or concrete so we can take extra measures as not to damage the unit and provide more safety mats and provide sandbags to secure the unit where pegs cannot be used. If you are unsure we can visit the site to assess its suitability. We do this free of charge.

How is the inflatable secured to the ground?
Pegs are usually used to secure the inflatable - however if on a hard surface such as concrete then sandbags can be used. Please advise us if this is the case. If in doubt about the set up area then please contact us.

What about indoors?
All of our units are suitable for indoor hire (height pending). We use sandbags to secure the unit in this case. Indoors have priority when it comes to delivery and collection times. This is due to strict time keeping policies that tends to come with hall hire.

What happens if it rains on the day of a hire?
Most of our inflatables come with rain covers but if you still decide to cancel due to weather then please let us know as soon as possible preferably before 9am. You will not be charged for making the decision. It may also be necessary for us to cancel for the sake of safety if extreme weather is paramount - such as relentless rain or high winds. We will always supply a castle wherever possible.

What happens if it rains during a hire?
All of our units are operated with RCD circuit breakers fitted to the fans, and also have weatherproof connectors for external use (the plug to the mains must be indoors). Most of our castles come with shower covers, but it is recommended that you stop use if the rain becomes heavy, as the castle can become slippery when wet. This can be dried with a towel.

How does the inflatable operate?
All of our units run on electric fans. The blowers must be kept switched on at all times the castle is on hire. Failure to do this will result in the castle deflating.

How much does the castle cost for me to run?
An average electric unit costs between 50p and £1 for a days use. A petrol blower or generator's costs will vary depending on current fuel cost.

Can I keep the castle overnight?
Yes, providing the area is self-contained and secure. There is a small surcharge for this service.

How many children are allowed on the inflatable at a time?
It all depends on the age and size of the children and what they are doing. Some are more boisterous than others. As a general rule there should be enough space for each child to jump safely with enough room as not to bounce into others or fall off the unit itself. A responsible adult should always supervise and common sense must prevail.

Can you provide supervision for the duration of hire?
Yes, for an extra charge, we can provide a supervisor (first aid qualified) to manage the inflatable for the hire term. Contact us for details.

How can I be sure that you won't let me down?
We are a family business and pride ourselves on our strong reputation which we have built over a number of years. Your recommendation is key to our future success. Many of our customers come back to us year after year. We will confirm your booking in writing and you can be assured we will not let you down on the day Obviously like everyone else we are susceptible to events beyond our control like traffic delays & accidents (even if we are not directly involved) but thankfully we have never been affected to any degree with these issues.

What happens if there is a problem with the bouncy castle?
It is unlikely you will encounter any problems as our equipment is regularly serviced and well maintained. Providing the equipment is used in accordance with the Terms and Conditions then there should be no problems, however should any difficulty arise you should contact us immediately so that we can come out as soon as possible to rectify the problem.

PLEASE NOTE: Adults are not allowed on the children’s' inflatables. Nor are pets, silly string, party poppers or chewing gum. Any damage caused to any of the equipment whilst in your care shall be charged accordingly.

Safety Instruction Sheet & Terms and Conditions

Our terms and conditions are available in word format Here
A copy will also be supplied with the Castle.

If you have any questions regarding these terms and conditions please contact us

While we take every care to ensure our castles are a safe as they can be, there are a number of important rules and considerations that the hirer must adhere to:

We have a safety sheet for you to print out and display at your event

Our Full list of safety instructions are reproduced below and are available as a word document Here

Safety Instruction Sheet for customers when inflatable play equipment is delivered.

It is the responsibility of the customer (hirer) to ensure that all possible steps are taken to avoid injury or damage to the inflatable. Please ensure that the following safety instructions are followed:
1) This unit has an age limit of (owner to specify) years. Please ensure no-one over this age uses the equipment.
2) No food or drinks to be consumed on the inflatable.(to avoid choking & mess).
3) All shoes, badges, jewelry, (i.e. large earrings, necklaces etc.) MUST be removed. It is recommended that spectacles are also removed.
4) No party-poppers, colored streamers or "silly string" must be used near or on the inflatable, as they can make a terrible mess and permanently stain the unit.
5) No smoking near the inflatable.
6) Climbing, hanging, or sitting on the walls is DANGEROUS and must not be allowed.
7) A responsible adult must supervise the inflatable at all times.
8) Ensure that the inflatable is not overcrowded, and limit the numbers depending on age and size of children using it. If the children are colliding into each other then it is too crowded.
9)Try to avoid large children and small children from using the inflatable at the same time. Some children require strict supervision.
10) If the inflatable is not being used for any part of the day, please switch the blower off at the mains, this will reduce your electric bill!
11)Do not allow anyone to bounce on the step/front apron. The step is there to help users get on and off.
12) Ensure that no-one with a history of back or neck problems are allowed on the inflatable.
13) Do not allow users to be on the unit during inflation or deflation.
14) In the event of heavy rain, it is strongly recommended that the inflatable be switched off. Any wetness, including bubbling can be dried with a towel. A small picnic table placed over the blower, will help prevent rain-water being sucked into the blower, and then into the inflatable.
15) The blower at the back may have a safety reset button. In the event that it overheats, or loses power, switch the blower off at the mains, and then switch it back on again 1 or 2 minutes later, and it should restart. If it does not, or there is a power cut, inform us IMMEDIATELY.
16) Ensure that the vent on the side of the blower is kept clear at all times.
17) If you are unsure about anything, please contact us. Phone: 07799 737373 or Email: bouncycastles@737373.co.uk or sales@j-4-j.co.uk

There are a number of trade associations that bouncy castle hire companies can become members of, and if you want to make sure the company you’re hiring from is professional and reputable, then it might be worth checking if they are a member of any of these associations:

British Inflatable Hirers Association (BIHA)
Launched in 2000, the BIHA has more than 30 members from across the UK and successfully brings together the inflatable hire industry together to share information and ideas. The BIHA is particularly focused on getting Public Liability insurance premiums lowered and improving the overall safety standards within the industry. This organisation also supports and recommends the new PIPA scheme for the testing and certification of bouncy castles and inflatable slides.

PIPA
PIPA is an inspection scheme set up by the inflatable play industry to ensure that children's inflatable play equipment, such as slides and bouncy castles, conform to national standards. All of the industry's trade associations have co-operated in setting up the scheme, which is supported by the Health and Safety Executive.

The scheme recognises that there are three elements that make for a safe inflatable play environment: properly manufactured and maintained equipment, correct operation of the equipment, and supervision. The PIPA scheme ensures that equipment is tested both before the first use and annually after that.

Association of Inflatable Manufactures, Operators, Designers and Suppliers (AIMODS)
AIMODS is a relatively new trade association for the inflatable play industry but it has already helped to establish the PIPA scheme, as well as supporting the growth of the industry and changes in its safety standards.

National Association of Inflatable Hirers (NAIH)
The NAIH is a trade association for inflatable hire companies across the UK, and its members are suppliers of bouncy castles, inflatable games and other types of leisure equipment. The association has a strict membership criterion and supports the PIPA scheme.
